Landon Suprise Birth Story

I figured while Landon is sleeping, now would be the perfect time to write this all down before I forget...

February 10, 2014
I had a doctors appointment that day with my OB. The week before we had decided to up my induction date to the eleventh of February because my blood pressure was starting to rise. I went in to my appointment hoping to be dilated to at least a 1. I had been on bed rest all week, so I knew there would be a small chance. I was feeling contractions all week but nothing that was super painful. I was checked at my appointment and I was only dilated to a finger tip. This meant that I had to go into Labor and Delivery that night to start my induction.

2/10/14  4:00pm
I was super sad my husband had to work all day. My phone was struggling to work and I was trying to get last minute things before little Landon was born. At 4:00pm we went to the sprint store and bought new phones, but it was taking forever to get everything set up. I ended up running home and grabbing everything for the hospital and Steve stayed at the sprint store.  We finally left and headed straight to the hospital.

2/10/14  6:00pm
We started the induction process. I was put on prepedil.  AKA cervical ripening. This gel stuff helps to soften my cervix so I can start to dilate. It also creates contractions. I was monitored for an hour to see how the baby was handling it, and was sent home until midnight where I would receive my second dose of prepedil.
I hadn't eaten all day, knowing that we would be having a baby the next day. I didn't want to poop in delivery! But I was finally starving! We stopped by KFC on the way home. I was contracting quite a bit so it was hard for me to eat. We finally made it home and I showered and layed down.

2/11/14 12:00am
We were back at the hospital for my second dose. They told me I could go home since everything went good, or I could stay and they would start my induction in the morning. I decided to stay. My anxiety was getting to me.
I don't think I slept an hour that night. I was sooo nervous. If you know me, you know I have a huge phobia of needles. My fears kept me up allll night while Steve slept.

2/11/14 6:00am
Since I work in Labor I got to choose who my nurse was. I was so happy to have Tarah. She was such a blessing. She knew how scared I was to get an IV. She did an awesome job. I didn't feel a thing. She then started me on pitocin to start my contractions getting harder. They started me at 8 of pit and upped the dose by 4 every hour or 30 min. I can't remember which. I made it to 16 of pit before I called it quits. (pit only goes to 20)

9:00am
I decided I wanted the epidural. I wasn't in terrible pain. But I knew if I waited any longer I would be in too much pain. At this point I was dilated to 1cm. Yes I am not ashamed. I got my epidural at 1cm.
Everyone that tells you the IV hurts worse than the epidural LIES. The epidural hurt soooo bad. They had to place my epidural TWICE. the first time he hit a blood vessel.

12:00pm
My OB came and broke my water. He was originally going to do it when I was dilated to 2cm, but since I wasn't dilating he did it then at 1cm. The next few hours seemed like a blur. The pit was turned off at one point and I was put on oxygen. Baby wasn't doing so well with my contractions coming so hard and so fast. I thought for sure at this point they would come and talk to me about getting a c-section. My outcome wasn't looking so hot

3:00pm
I was finally dilated to 3cm!!! Best news of my life!

6:00pm
Shift change, and I got to have my friend Cori be my nurse. She is awesome. I told her I thought I dilated more with a pillow between my legs. So we decided to try an exercise type ball between my legs....

8:00pm
I was feeling my contractions really well. I had to get a re dose on my epidural.

8:15pm
Tons of pressure. I felt like I needed to push. I was dilated to a 10!! All my friends from Labor and Delivery came to cheer me on and give me hugs and wish me luck. I felt like a million bucks. We did a couple of practice pushes and the doctor was called. I pushed for a total of 20 min. And my little Landon was born

The Journey

I still can't believe this whole Journey is over. (Birth story up soon) I can't even believe how fast time came and went. I'm so grateful I have supportive friends and family to help me out during this time. Having a baby is a big deal, all of a sudden you have a little person that depends on you for everything. We love our little Landon and can't imagine our lives with out him. Here is a little timeline from start to almost finish. I was super bad at keeping up with everything at the end of my pregnancy. Being on bed rest and appointments twice a week kinda got me distracted from everything else...
