Landon Suprise Birth Story

I figured while Landon is sleeping, now would be the perfect time to write this all down before I forget...

February 10, 2014
I had a doctors appointment that day with my OB. The week before we had decided to up my induction date to the eleventh of February because my blood pressure was starting to rise. I went in to my appointment hoping to be dilated to at least a 1. I had been on bed rest all week, so I knew there would be a small chance. I was feeling contractions all week but nothing that was super painful. I was checked at my appointment and I was only dilated to a finger tip. This meant that I had to go into Labor and Delivery that night to start my induction.

2/10/14  4:00pm
I was super sad my husband had to work all day. My phone was struggling to work and I was trying to get last minute things before little Landon was born. At 4:00pm we went to the sprint store and bought new phones, but it was taking forever to get everything set up. I ended up running home and grabbing everything for the hospital and Steve stayed at the sprint store.  We finally left and headed straight to the hospital.

2/10/14  6:00pm
We started the induction process. I was put on prepedil.  AKA cervical ripening. This gel stuff helps to soften my cervix so I can start to dilate. It also creates contractions. I was monitored for an hour to see how the baby was handling it, and was sent home until midnight where I would receive my second dose of prepedil.
I hadn't eaten all day, knowing that we would be having a baby the next day. I didn't want to poop in delivery! But I was finally starving! We stopped by KFC on the way home. I was contracting quite a bit so it was hard for me to eat. We finally made it home and I showered and layed down.

2/11/14 12:00am
We were back at the hospital for my second dose. They told me I could go home since everything went good, or I could stay and they would start my induction in the morning. I decided to stay. My anxiety was getting to me.
I don't think I slept an hour that night. I was sooo nervous. If you know me, you know I have a huge phobia of needles. My fears kept me up allll night while Steve slept.

2/11/14 6:00am
Since I work in Labor I got to choose who my nurse was. I was so happy to have Tarah. She was such a blessing. She knew how scared I was to get an IV. She did an awesome job. I didn't feel a thing. She then started me on pitocin to start my contractions getting harder. They started me at 8 of pit and upped the dose by 4 every hour or 30 min. I can't remember which. I made it to 16 of pit before I called it quits. (pit only goes to 20)

9:00am
I decided I wanted the epidural. I wasn't in terrible pain. But I knew if I waited any longer I would be in too much pain. At this point I was dilated to 1cm. Yes I am not ashamed. I got my epidural at 1cm.
Everyone that tells you the IV hurts worse than the epidural LIES. The epidural hurt soooo bad. They had to place my epidural TWICE. the first time he hit a blood vessel.

12:00pm
My OB came and broke my water. He was originally going to do it when I was dilated to 2cm, but since I wasn't dilating he did it then at 1cm. The next few hours seemed like a blur. The pit was turned off at one point and I was put on oxygen. Baby wasn't doing so well with my contractions coming so hard and so fast. I thought for sure at this point they would come and talk to me about getting a c-section. My outcome wasn't looking so hot

3:00pm
I was finally dilated to 3cm!!! Best news of my life!

6:00pm
Shift change, and I got to have my friend Cori be my nurse. She is awesome. I told her I thought I dilated more with a pillow between my legs. So we decided to try an exercise type ball between my legs....

8:00pm
I was feeling my contractions really well. I had to get a re dose on my epidural.

8:15pm
Tons of pressure. I felt like I needed to push. I was dilated to a 10!! All my friends from Labor and Delivery came to cheer me on and give me hugs and wish me luck. I felt like a million bucks. We did a couple of practice pushes and the doctor was called. I pushed for a total of 20 min. And my little Landon was born

8:43pm
Landon Steven Suprise
5lbs 9oz 19in. long 8,9 apgars.
my perfect little angel was finally here.

37 Weeks. A couple of days before I was induced

The top line is baby Landon's heart beat. The bottom line is my contractions

The Journey

I still can't believe this whole Journey is over. (Birth story up soon) I can't even believe how fast time came and went. I'm so grateful I have supportive friends and family to help me out during this time. Having a baby is a big deal, all of a sudden you have a little person that depends on you for everything. We love our little Landon and can't imagine our lives with out him. Here is a little timeline from start to almost finish. I was super bad at keeping up with everything at the end of my pregnancy. Being on bed rest and appointments twice a week kinda got me distracted from everything else...

35 Weeks

My Laptop is broken. BOOooooooooooo!!! :( it has been for a few weeks if you cant tell.

Personally, I think pictures make a blog more exciting. So use the imagination just this one time while I mourn the loss of my laptop.

35 week update!!

I last left off at 31 weeks. Time is flying!! A few days after I posted I got a phone call from my obgyn. I was told I needed to come in for bi-weekly non stress tests. For those who don't know what this is, they hook me up to monitors and watch the babies heart rate, and also if I am having any contractions.  This whole thing about getting these twice a week was news to me. I thought for sure I wasn't high risk any more.

I had a doctors appointment at 32 weeks and started my first non stress test. I was also informed that I have to pee in a jug once a week and also get my blood drawn.I also get to see the doctor once a week. How fun right?

Everything so far has been going well with all the tests I get to do. My baby likes to sleep when I do my NST's so I have to drink coke, or eat peanut butter crackers, or lay on my side, and he gets a little buzz to the head as well.

I had an appointment this past week. I was told the little man was measuring at 32 weeks.... I don't know all the details but I get measured again on Tuesday. If he hasn't grown, they will send me to a specialist to get an ultrasound on the deets of this kid. Keeping a prayer in my heart for this little boy. And  hoping for a good outcome.

How far along? 35 weeks today!

Total weight gain? 17 pounds. woof

Maternity clothes? I wear about half and half.

Stretch marks? NONE!! Hoping this will be the case in a few more weeks

Sleep? I usually go to bed around 11pm, wake up at 7am. Then sleep again from 8-12pm. its been nice

Best moment this week? Passing the first 20mins of my nst. usually they have to keep me on the monitors 40 min to an hour because the little man doesn't want to wake up

food cravings? I haven't had any for awhile. I get really thirsty in the mornings though. So water has been tasting so good!

Anything making you sick or queasy? nothing lately. So glad morning sickness is a thing of the past

Labor signs? Yes!! Hello braxton hicks

Belly button in or out? If you know me this has been my biggest issue. I HATE my belly button right now. It's an outtie that wont go back in. My belly button looks like a volcano. It's so ugly.

Wedding ring on or off? Still on

Happy or Moody? I would say moody. I'm so ready to be done working

Looking forward to? My baby shower tomorrow!! I can't wait

I almost forgot!! Induction date set for February 16th!!! They are talking about taking him at 37 weeks but so far so good!!

Happy Holidays! weeks 30 and 31

Seriously I have no idea where the time has gone. I guess I should count myself lucky. Most people will tell you that their pregnancy has taken forever.. not me. I think it has a little bit to do with the fact that I am scared to death to deliver a baby. You think I would be used to it by now. I have seen over 100 births and assisted in plenty of c-sections, but the bad thing is that I know everything that can go wrong. I know all the nurses terms. I have a huge fear of needles. The list goes on...

So here is the update.

A week before this was taken, I had another doctors appointment, and it went a little something like this.

They weighed me. In total this pregnancy I have gained a total of 10 pounds. ((you go baby Suprise))
They checked on baby's heart beat. His little heart was beating 130 beats a minute. This was good news to hear but the doctor seemed concerned. He didn't say anything but you could tell by the look on his face. He moved the little wand on my stomach a second time and seemed satisfied. Hopefully this isn't a sign of something bad to happen.
They told me how I did on my glucose test. I scored a 121. They tell me I passed, but to be honest that is totally on the high side. The cut off is 140. No wonder I thought the drink tasted so good!!
They checked my blood pressure. I usually run on the higher side. 135/93. With the bottom number being so high they checked it again. 143/90. It had gone up. The nurse just looked at me and said, "It's already starting." I knew exactly what she meant. With an increase in my blood pressure could mean there was protein in my urine. Which is also a sign that I could be developing pre-eclampsia.
Things didn't get better. I had been having cramping all week. The doctor decided it was best he checked my cervix. OUCH! It was a little painful. I have not started to dilate, which I guess is a good sign.
Before leaving the office they took my blood pressure one last time. 127/90. The nurse turned the machine taking my blood pressure toward the doctor. He gave me the okay to go home. But I could tell the nurse didn't like his decision. She whispered to me "Do you think you could pee in a cup for me?" I shook my head. After just getting checked I didn't think it was even possible.
I now get to see the doctor every 2 weeks. Although my normal doctor wont be in town on new years eve so I get to wait until January 7th. I think this next appointment will have a lot more of telling what will happen for me in the next few weeks. Until then I guess there is no need to worry right?

We had a great Christmas. Steven definitely got spoiled. Two new hats, some new basketball shorts, three new pairs of jeans, the shirt he is wearing in the photo, new socks, a toy airplane, and a ps3 game thing that he is holding in the picture.

I can't complain either. I got apple tv, two new pairs of sweats, some make up from sephora, a make up bag, Elizabeth Smarts new book, some baby bottles, three new outfits for our baby, a gift card for after I deliver, a gift card to costco, some ray bans, and the list goes on.
I had to work Christmas eve, which kind of ruined Christmas. Although I do have the sweetest husband in the world. He and my two sister-in-laws came to the hospital and brought me my Christmas PJ's. Steven told me I couldn't come home unless I was wearing them. After my 12 hour shift was over I opened up my car to find my stocking sitting on the passenger seat. It was so sweet, and made Christmas a little better. I slept most of the morning and missed my brother-in-law calling home from his mission, which I felt horrible for. We then spent the rest of the day at my parents house.

Which brings me to today. December 29

How far along? 31.2

Total weight gain? 10 pounds.. probably more by now. with the holidays I would guess I put on another 5 pounds

Maternity clothes? YES. I gave in. I bought maternity jeans. I couldn't take it any longer. And now I wish I had bought them sooner. They are WAY better than trying to do up my button every morning.

Stretch marks? zero. lets keep it that way. Only 9 more weeks or less. I believe in miracles.

Sleep? Practically non existent. I wake up every two hours every night with out fail.

Best moment this week? Just this morning, I was laying on my side with my hand on my stomach because I kept feeling the little one kick me. It felt like his heel. I had Steve put his hand on my stomach. His face lit up, I've never seen him so happy. He was like WHOA!! It feels like he is trying to break out of there.

Food cravings? Not this week.

Anything making you sick or queasy? Not getting enough sleep has been making me so sick to my stomach

Labor signs? Cramping. I have also been getting back pain but just on the left side

Belly button in or out? I have a full on outtie. I tried to poke it back in... it didn't work in case anyone was wondering

Wedding ring on or off? Still on. Although my fingers feel like they are starting to swell up a bit

Happy or Moody most of the time? I think the answer to this would be emotional. I have been crying a lot lately. Mostly because I can't even imagine a baby here. I have also started my "nesting" phase which makes me super angry sometimes when I have just cleaned something and the next day to find the room dirty. grrrr

Looking forward to? Tuesday. Ringing in the NEW YEAR! 2014 has a lot in store for us, and I can't even wait!!!!

Week 27

How far along? 27.5

Total weight gain? Got on the scale today and I'm still what I was at in the doctors office. So far still not at my pre-prego weight

Maternity clothes? It's a little bit of both. I only have a few pairs of jeans that fit me still. I think I'll stick with the leggings for the rest of my pregnancy.

Stretch marks? None

Sleep? I love sleeping I could sleep all day

Best moment this week? Feeling my baby kick super hard. He also loves my ribs at the moment.

Food cravings? Vegetables with ranch have been sooooo good

Anything making you sick or queasy? I threw up this past week, I think it was because my mouth was in so much pain. I went to the dentist and it turns out that if you throw up a lot during your pregnancy the acid sits on your teeth and causes your fillings to fall out. who knew?!

Labor signs? So far so good

Symptoms? Just the waddling pregnant lady through the store

Belly button in or out? Well this is a funny one. In the morning my belly button is in. At night my belly button is full on out. I guess a few more weeks and I'll have a permanent outtie

Wedding ring on or off? Still on

Happy or Moody most of the time? I think I'm happy but Maybe this question should be answered by the hubs lol

Looking forward to? My next appointment, which may be a week sooner. I might have to go see a cardiologist next week. {{YIKES}}
